United Nations climate change report launched in Việt Nam

Under former Gov. Bill Richardson, the state of New Mexico undertook some climate initiatives, trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industries and studying how the impacts of warming would affect resources and its communities.

Adam Bandt, the Greens climate spokesman, said the IPCC report showed it was "time to hit the climate emergency button", and that neither major party was prepared to take the necessary steps.

The IPCC is the global body for assessing the science related to climate change.

The IPCC report reveals the widespread effects of global warming of 1.5°C and above, which includes increased coastal flooding and the salinization of river beds, besides increased heatwaves.

UNDP Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Specialist Jenty Kirsch-Wood said there is at least US$10 billion of Foreign Direct Investment available to support Việt Nam's transition to cleaner energy and energy saving if current barriers blocking such investment are lifted.

The IPCC report says failing to prevent just an extra degree of heat could expose millions and ecosystems to life-threatening conditions in the next few decades. For instance, by 2100, the global sea level rise would be 10cm lower with global warming of 1.5ºC compared with 2ºC. He has also vowed to increase the burning of coal by the country.

Google to finally shut down Google Plus as massive security breach revealed
In a post here, Alphabet Inc ( Google's parent company) stated that they were shutting down the consumer version of Google +. This data is limited to static, optional Google + Profile fields including name, email address, occupation, gender and age.

"My focus is making sure we actually do what we said we were going to do and then we can be more ambitious", McKenna said.

Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP Country Director for Vietnam, said the IPCC report noted that severe impacts of climate change could be avoidable by limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, but time is running out. The world will find out the degree to which Hurricane Michael was, provably, a climate change-fueled catastrophe in coming weeks and months.

That nexus in reality is so powerful that it has potential to transform the global pathways for action on climate change. At 1.5C of global warming, Namibia and Botswana can expect roughly 20 more days of exposure to heat stress in a year. It also does not describe any risks except for destabilization of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets, he said.

The scientists wrote that globally, human-caused emissions of carbon dioxide "would need to fall by about 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030, reaching "net zero" around 2050". A more ambitious, but non-binding goal, of 1.5 C was set as well, at the urging of more vulnerable countries that called 2 C warming a death sentence. That makes the company the fourth major United States coal supplier to file for bankruptcy in recent years due to the significant decline in coal use.

The landmark Paris Agreement adopted in December 2015 by 195 nations at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), included the aim of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change by "holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels". In July 2014 and again in May 2016, she served as a special envoy on climate change for the United Nations and has called for the divestment of fossil fuels. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said, adding that his responsibility was to "balance those interests raised in that report with (his state's) broader economic and security interests".

The report's 91 authors, representing 40 countries, reviewed more than 6000 papers over two years.
