Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed Half Nelson, will direct.

Jude Law is in talks to star as the male lead alongside Brie Larson in Captain Marvel.

Larson is playing Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. She finds herself with superhuman abilities afterward including super strength, energy projection, and flight.

Law will play 'Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers'. The film's most recent script was written by Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve. It's also thought that Law will return as Mr. Watson in the third Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey, Jr, although there have been few developments on the continuation of that franchise (which is produced by Fantastic Beasts' Lionel Wigram).

The character that Law will not be the villain of the piece as Ben Mendelsohn has already been signed up for that role. Samuel L. Jackson is supposed to make an appearance as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel as well.

The Captain Marvel movie will be a period piece set in the 1990s of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will feature the shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls, rulers of a rival empire to that of the Kree.

It'll release shortly after Captain Marvel in 2019, though there have been rumblings that a select number of costumed crusaders will cross over into the Larson-fronted spinoff.
