Musk seeks to soothe Wall Street nerves after snub

During a controversial earnings call with analysts on 2 May, where he cut short "boring" questions about the company's financial situation, Musk said production would start "24 months from now, so 2020 is a more likely prospect for Model Y".

Tesla also reported a net loss of almost $800 million during the last quarter, as the company grapples with widely reported problems over its inability to efficiently produce Model 3 cars.

Nord LB analyst Frank Schwope said that Musk's refusal to answer questions or receive criticism was "not very clever" but added that his ability to find new money was still intact.

CNBC also reports that Musk made a decision to take several questions from a 25-year-old retail investor and owner of a YouTube channel, Galileo Russell, which is unusual because questions on earnings calls are traditionally reserved for analysts, professional investors, and sometimes media.

Today, with Tesla's stock price having plummeted then gradually regained its momentum, Musk is defiant. And once they were on the call", Musk admitted, "I should have answered their questions live.

Early rumours suggested the Model Y would be built with the same production architecture as the Model 3, but TechRadar says that Tesla has developed a new platform for the electric SUV.

But Model 3 production still isn't near the level of 5,000 per week that Musk promised a year ago.

According to United States report, the missiles have been shifted to Fiery Cross Reef, Subi Reef and Mischief Reef within the past 30 days.

"HyperChange represented actual investors, so I switched to them", Musk wrote in another tweet.

"With over $11 billion of total short interest in Tesla, many traders are either at or close to their risk limits and will not be able to increase their positions substantially".

The spat comes at a crunch time for Tesla when it is struggling to ramp up production of its Model 3 sedan, on which its profitability depends. Russell asked Musk on Twitter if he could be on the earnings call, which is generally meant only for investors, analysts, and occasionally, the media.

Tesla affirmed its forecast for positive cash flow by the second half of the year.

Conference calls after earnings reports are released tend to be clubby affairs where analysts gently probe executives for details they can use to adjust their profit and revenue estimates up and down for coming quarters.

The company said it will reduce capital spending for 2018 from $3.4 billion to $3 billion and said it can be cut further based on the cash it generates.
